Top Five Ways to Manage and Reduce Stress
60Stress! Everyone goes through it; young or old, rich or poor. Even the cavemen back in the days went through plenty of stress in trying to find food and hunting down wild animals just to feed his family. Complain as we may, moan and grumble as we may, there is no escaping it. Stress always accompanies us in whatever we pursue. So, the question is, how do we deal with it? How do we manage stress to be able to cope and continue with our daily activities without letting it get the best of us and ultimately paralyzing us? Here are a few tips which I hope you may find useful in helping you out:
My Top 5 Ways
Tip # 1 – Plan and Organize.
Get a diary or a notebook. It is important to plan and map out the following day’s activities the previous night. Spend about 15 minutes trying to prioritize the important stuff from the less important one. This way you will be able to save loads of time and not having to worry whether you’ve got everything done for the day. Carry that diary of yours wherever you go and constantly refer to it so as to not get side - tracked by other things. Remember, to plan is to avoid chaos and uncertainty which will then most likely lead to uncontrollable events leading to the birth of stress.
Tip # 2 – Rest is Important
You may have tons to do, but that does not give you the right to neglect your mind and body. Sleep is important. A healthy 7 – 8 hour sleep every night is vital to recharging your “batteries” and keeping you alert the next day. Try taking power naps during the day if you start to feel lethargic and drowsy. Sleep is important for your mind to relax and be more efficient. By having sufficient amount rest, your mind will naturally be better equipped to cope with the amount of work placed onto it. Trust me, a lot more can be done when you feel energetic and vibrant during the day.
Tip # 3 – Good Diet
You are what you eat. Avoid consuming too much caffeine and carbonated drinks and replace it instead with water and fresh fruit juices. This way you can maintain a healthy biochemical composition and improve your vitality. Make sure you have a balanced diet which consists of plenty of fruits and vegetables. You can have a continuous supply of energy rather than those short bursts you get by consuming sugary drinks which will ultimately leave you tired and craving for more. With the amount of stress coming from the outside world, it definitely makes sense to treat your body right so as to not start a rebellious riot from within your body demanding that you take care of it. This “two – pronged stress attack” will definitely take its toll on you in the long run.
Tip #4 – Yoga or Meditation
Try to incorporate this routine into the final 15 – 20 minutes of your day, just before you hit the bed. Meditation helps to calm and relax the mind while improving your focus and concentration. One of the most basic and simplest techniques of meditation is by eliminating every worry from your mind and just trying to focus your thoughts on your breathing. Meditation has been scientifically proven to bring about a lot of benefits for the human soul.
Tip # 5 – Exercise
Exercise is important to relax those tense muscles and help you rejuvenate those tired cells in your body. Get at least 30 minutes of exercise time into your daily routine for 3 – 4 days a week and see how it works wonders. Through exercise you will help keep your mind on the go and active at all times. Besides that, another way to view exercise is by using it as an outlet to vent your frustration and stress that is penned up inside of you. Try kickboxing, tennis, swimming, martial arts or even football and just focus all your stress on that ball or that punching bag and swing away! Believe me, you will feel a whole lot better inside once you’ve successfully let it all out.
